Stone Buddha
Stone Buddha

30" x 30" Mixed Media on Canvas SOLD This painting has a very special significance. It was one of those works where the creative process to bring it into existence was a very peaceful, very joyous and Zen experience. As well I used many and various elements--crushed sea shells, an old document dating from when I first arrived in Canada as a child and scraps of paper hand made by women in India. And glitter and gold foil in the stone 'headpiece'.

30" x 30" Mixed Media on Canvas SOLD In this painting I wanted to move beyond a gender specific face to an image that was androgynous and inclusive--a face that is neither male nor female and could be either--to showcase my belief that gender differences are insignificant when viewed against the core truth that we are first and foremost simply human. This painting features fibre paste as a ground on the canvas, as well as acrylics and oils, including metalic oils for the face.

30" x 24" Mixed Media on Canvas SOLD Upon finishing 'Buddha with Bamboo', I loved working with only a part of the face, loved how that was all I needed to convey the message. I wanted to do another painting like that, so I did the same portion of the face, but this time larger, with nothing else in the composition, and in very different textures. In this painting I used much thicker materials such as fibre and paper paste and both the face and the background are heavily textured.
